Peace-Politically Divisive

Today the New York Times published in interesting article about a couple in Denver Colorado who hung a christmas wreath in the shape of a peace sign. Some of their neighbors found this offensive and considered it "politically divisive." The couple say they just wanted to send a message of
Peace on Earth. Is this controversy only becuase of the context of the community it was in? Or does a peace symbol hold many other connotations besides the standard "peace on earth?" click here to view
