Clinton launches child HIV drugs

Bill Clinton has a foundation that deals to make HIV/Aids treatment cheaper for children. He talked about his speech at children’s hospital in the Indian Capital. He said two Indian companies will supply 19 antiretroviral drugs and their cost will be reduced by 45%. The medicine will be available in 62 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. This foundation aims to supply the aid to poorer countries that are struggling to stop the spread of HIV/Aids. I thought this article was very appealing since this disease is spreading all around countries. I thought it was nice thing what Bill Clinton did helping the unfortunate that can’t afford medicine and innocent people dying. Hopefully it will put a stop to this epidemic.

Peace-Politically Divisive

Today the New York Times published in interesting article about a couple in Denver Colorado who hung a christmas wreath in the shape of a peace sign. Some of their neighbors found this offensive and considered it "politically divisive." The couple say they just wanted to send a message of
Peace on Earth. Is this controversy only becuase of the context of the community it was in? Or does a peace symbol hold many other connotations besides the standard "peace on earth?" click here to view

Traditional Ways Spread AIDS in Africa

This is very interesting I found this in the
NY Times . When Zamba Manga was born over the summer, doctors informed his mother, Marise, who is H.I.V positive, not to breast-feed, because nursing can overtake the virus that causes AIDS from mother to child. The Mother and baby left the hospital with bottles and formula supplied by a Catholic charity. The very next week, the parents took their baby to the father’s village in the south of Cameroon, to take part in a traditional birth and naming ceremony. Custom required the new mother to nurse the newborn, so she did.

“Why would you risk his health in this way?” Dr. Suzie Tetang Moyo, was deeply frustrated when she saw the parents only just a couple of weeks ago at the clinic. In Africa, there is one medical doctor for every 40,000 people, but one traditional healer for every 500. In the traditional ceremony the government officials recognize the spreading of H.I.V. is because of breast-feeding, this is the standard in many country villages.

Iranian-American student tasered by UCLA library security guards

Graphic footage of the student being tasered multiple times has been flooding the web over the last few days. OK, PR students, what should UCLA do? The student is claiming racial profiling.

Mass Media Distribution

This website is very interesting they receive press releases and editors pick up the story.Using their database, they are able to see what journalists have written about in the past and what kind of information they are looking for. They target journalists and editors. This company has experience with all types of businesses such as accounting, advertising, business opportunities, and many more. The type of service that it provides is sending press releases directly to the editors and journalists that write about the type of organization and topic. It is very expensive, but interesting to know that something like this is out there.

Skinny models banned from catwalk

This was very interesting to me. In Madrid,Spain the world's first forbid on excessively skinny models at a top-level fashion show in Madrid has caused rage among modeling agencies and raised the scene of limits at other locations.

Madrid's fashion week has turned away skin-and-bone models after dispute that girls and young women were trying to copy their thin looks and developing eating disorders.
So many young girls look up to celebrities and models. They think that if they don’t eat they can look like them. Which isn’t right, so many girls are having eating disorders.

“Organizers say they want to project an image of beauty and health, rather than a frail, or heroin chic look.”

What do you think?
