Gay and Lesbian Newspapers

When I checked out the opening page to the Baywindow Times i noticed that all the pictures where of gay men and lesbian women. I also noticed that all of the main headlines were just directed towards the gay and lesbian community. I don't mind any of this happening, but what I do mind is that if another paper, THE BOSTON GLOBE for example, did not highlight the gay and lesbian community top stories they would be enraged and wright letters to the editors of that paper. They gay and lesbian community are really trying to make it ok to be a lesbian or a gay man.
The bottom is a link to the news paper that checked out

Don't you think the reason the gay/lesbian newspaper exists is because they are a group that is not sufficiently targeted in larger newspapers? Whether or not gay marriage should be banned is not the only issue that effects this population but you probably wouldn't know that if you read only the Boston Globe. The gay/lesbian newspaper provides news and information that the target population can relate to...the information you do not see in the Boston Globe.

Michelle makes valid points in pointing the fact that gay/lesbian issues are not sufficiently covered in traditional news media channels, and specialized news provides additional coverage of pertinent topics for targeted groups. I think that all targeted media more deeply investigates issues that matter to its audience and expands discussions to include a more in depth look at matters of concern.
